Notes from tonight's meeting

The following are notes from tonight’s meeting:

outreach
Attendance was low at tonight’s meeting as it has been in the past. We discussed ways to get more people involved. We especially want to maintain interest over the summer so that there is a good turnout for September’s meeting. Suggestions included:
  • some sort of newsletter – web-based or photocopied and put in mailboxes

  • specific reminder for September’s meeting

  • phone calls to people who are on our list

  • “each one bring one” if each person at the meeting brings one new person each time, we will keep doubling our attendance

  • refreshments – this is a logistical and financial issue

  • talk to other neighborhood groups to see what they do to improve attendance

  • make sure the meetings are efficient – people want to know that they’re not wasting their time

  • have the meetings be more social – if people think there will be just confrontation they won’t be as likely to come. Have a relaxed atmosphere and more conversational. Refreshments might help as well.

  • make sure to contact people who have given their names, email addresses and phone numbers

frequency of meetings
Some people were concerned that we are under-utilizing the school’s auditorium and don’t want to waste their resources. It costs the school money to staff it and keep the lights on for our meeting. We discussed the options of meeting at another smaller location that is more accessible to the general population of Dickinson Narrows. Some people thought we should meet less frequently or only when there is a “hot topic” to discuss.
In September we will talk about the effectiveness of monthly meetings and where they should take place.

*** PLEASE NOTE: There will not be a monthly meeting for July and August since these are summer months and we anticipate most people to be unavailable. We will reconvene in September. Please send us your email and join our list and check our website in the meantime to stay informed.

committees
The Committees have stalled and we’d like for them to pick up again. To recap, the following is a list of our committees and their email addresses. If you’d like to get involved, please send an email to:

Sanitation – sanitation@dickinsonnnarrows.org
Communication - communication@dickinsonnnarrows.org
Zoning - zoning@dickinsonnnarrows.org
Finance - finance@dickinsonnnarrows.org
Safety - safety@dickinsonnnarrows.org
Community Affairs - community@dickinsonnnarrows.org
Elections - election@dickinsonnarrows.org

clean-ups
People expressed interest in the clean-ups and that they are effective. Not only are they good for cleaning up the neighborhood, it’s also a great opportunity to meet your neighbors. We will work on improving the frequency and effectiveness of regular cleanups.

block captains
We need to get back on track with establishing block captains and asking them to help us get the word out about our meetings and events.

election
DNCA will hold their election on the third Friday in September (21st) at the DNCA office and other locations throughout the DNCA area, when available. These locations will be published in multiple local media outlets and/or other appropriate media prior to the election. The election will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

We will be putting more information about this on our website. If you have questions or are interested in running for office, please contact us for more information.

The September monthly meeting on the 17th will be the last meeting before the elections. At this time we expect to have people running for office to present themselves and answer questions from the audience. If you would like to be involved in making sure the election process is fair and efficient, please contact election@dickinsonnarrows.org

If you have any suggestions or questions, please email us and someone will get back to you.

thanks
